Finding a Therapist Near You: A Mental Health Guide for North Little Rock, Sherwood, Jacksonville, and Cabot
Author: Britney Hardin, MBA, MS, LAC, LAMFT
You Googled "therapist near me." You found this post.
That means something is already in motion — something in you that wants a change, wants to understand something, wants to get unstuck. And before you close this tab, I want to make sure you have everything you need to take the next step.
This guide was written specifically for people in North Little Rock, Sherwood, Jacksonville, Cabot, and the surrounding communities who are trying to figure out where to start. It answers the questions that come up before someone makes that first call — availability, cost, what to expect, in-person versus telehealth, how to know if a therapist is the right fit, and what to do if your first try doesn't work out.
Mental Health Awareness Month is here. And if there was ever a time to take the step you've been putting off, it is right now.
The Questions Everyone Has Before They Call
If you've been sitting on the idea of therapy for a while, you probably have a running list of questions and reasons why now isn't quite the right time. You're not alone in that. The questions I hear most often from people in this area before they ever reach out are:
Can I even get an appointment soon? Availability varies by provider, and some practices have wait lists. At BH Counseling Clinic, I do my best to get new clients in quickly — and the Clarity Call is a no-pressure first step that doesn't lock you into anything.
How do I pay for this? BH Counseling Clinic is in-network with Municipal Insurance (MHBF — Municipal Health Benefit Fund). Private pay sessions are available at $100 per session. Telehealth and in-person options are both available. If cost is a barrier and I can't serve you directly, I'll help connect you with options that can.
What kind of therapist do I need? This is one of the most common questions — and the honest answer is: a good starting point is just talking to someone. The Clarity Call exists exactly for this. You don't need to know what kind of therapy you need before you call. That's what we figure out together.
What if I don't like my therapist? Then you find a different one. One uncomfortable first session — or even an entire run with a therapist who wasn't the right fit — does not mean therapy isn't for you. It means you haven't found your person yet. Read more about finding the right therapist here →
In-Person vs. Telehealth: What Works for You?
For people in Sherwood, Jacksonville, Cabot, and the communities around North Little Rock, one of the biggest practical questions is often: should I come in person or do telehealth?
The honest answer: it depends on what's going to help you actually show up.
In-person therapy means getting out of your familiar space — which can feel nerve-racking at first. But that drive, that routine of carving out time and physically going somewhere, tends to become its own kind of anchor. It creates a safe space that exists outside of your normal environment. For a lot of clients, that separation is part of what makes the work possible.
Telehealth works especially well for people with demanding schedules, long commutes, or a preference for being in their own comfortable space. You can be on your couch, in your car on a lunch break, or anywhere private — and still do the same quality of work. I've found that telehealth works particularly well for clients who process better when they feel settled and at ease.
I leave the choice entirely up to you. There's no right answer — just what helps you lock in and do the work.
BH Counseling Clinic offers both in-person sessions at 2400 Crestwood Rd, Suite 202 in North Little Rock, and telehealth sessions across Central Arkansas.
What to Expect From Your First Session at BH Counseling Clinic
If you've never been to therapy before, here's what actually happens from the moment you reach out:
Step 1: The Clarity Call The first call is exactly what it sounds like — a conversation to provide you clarity, answer your questions, and help you figure out the best next step. That next step might be starting with me, or it might be a referral to someone better equipped for what you need. Either way, you leave the call knowing more than you did before. No pressure. No commitment.
Step 2: Intake Paperwork Before your first session, you'll complete initial paperwork through a secure online portal — everything is handled digitally, on your time. If anything is confusing, just reach out. It's an open dialogue from the beginning.
Step 3: Your First Appointment When you arrive, text me — I'll greet you at the door. You'll settle in and find your space, whether that's the couch or one of the chairs. There's no rush.
The first session is about getting to know each other. We'll shake out the nerves, I'll ask what's going on, and together we'll identify what you want to accomplish. Sometimes people have very clear goals. Sometimes they just know something isn't right and they can't explain it. Both are fine starting points. By the end of the session, we'll have a clearer picture of where you are and where you want to go.
Most people leave that first session with noticeably less stress than when they walked in. The jitters typically don't survive the hour.
October Is Mental Health Awareness Month — And This Is Your Sign
If you've been on the fence all year, this is the part where I talk to you directly.
Here's what I know about the fact that you're reading this post: something in you wants things to be different. There's at least one thing — maybe more — that you've been trying to move, trying to understand, trying to change on your own. And it hasn't moved the way you hoped.
I say this with love: if you always do what you've always done, you're always going to get what you've always got. Doing the same thing and expecting different results isn't a character flaw — but it is a signal. It's a signal that it might be time to call for backup. To let someone else help you see what you can't see from inside it.
And I've made it as easy as possible to take that first step. You can schedule your Clarity Call completely online if phone calls feel like too much. You can do telehealth from wherever you are. If I can't help you, I'll help you find someone who can. I don't turn people away to nowhere.
You are not alone. There are options. Don't give up — take the next step.
One More Thing Before You Leave This Page
If you tried therapy once before and it didn't click — please hear this: a bad first experience with one therapist doesn't mean therapy isn't for you. It means you didn't find the right therapist.
We treat the mind and emotions the same way we treat the body. Sometimes you need physical therapy and you have to commit to multiple sessions before you see progress. Mental health works the same way. The goal of therapy is that you learn, you grow, you overcome whatever is in the way, and then you get to thrive. That is the purpose. That is the goal.
Give it a real try. If the first therapist doesn't feel right, try another one. Here's how to know if a therapist is the right fit →
