Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy comes with questions — and you deserve clear, honest answers before you ever pick up the phone. Below are the questions I hear most often from individuals, couples, and families across Little Rock and Central Arkansas. If you don't see your question answered here, reach out directly — I'm happy to talk it through.
GETTING STARTED
How does counseling at BH Counseling Clinic work?
BH Counseling Clinic believes your mind, body, and spirit all matter — which means we talk about your whole life, not just one part of it. In our first session together, we'll get to know each other, talk through what brought you in, and begin building a plan that fits you specifically. There is no one-size-fits-all approach here. Every plan is built around your goals, your story, and your pace.
What happens in my first session?
Your first session is an intake — a conversation, not an interrogation. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, your history, your goals, and what you're hoping therapy can do for you. Most clients leave the first session feeling heard and relieved that someone finally has the full picture. There's no pressure to have it all figured out before you walk in.
What types of therapy do you offer?
At BH Counseling Clinic, I draw on several evidence-based approaches depending on what fits your needs:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — examining your thoughts and how they shape your emotions and actions
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) — focusing on emotions and building stronger relationships
Person-Centered Therapy — letting you lead the way, focused on your strengths and your goals
Narrative Therapy — helping you rewrite the story you tell about yourself
Family Systems / Relationship Therapy — understanding how your relationships and environment shape your healingI may also incorporate journaling, breathing exercises, self-check-ins, and other holistic tools depending on what serves you best.
Do I need to know exactly what's wrong before I reach out?
No. Many clients reach out simply knowing something feels off — exhaustion, disconnection, anxiety they can't name, or a sense that life isn't working the way it used to. You don't need a diagnosis or a clear explanation to start. That clarity is often something we find together.
What if I've never been to therapy before?
That's completely okay — most of my clients are either new to therapy or have had a past experience that didn't feel like the right fit. There is no wrong way to start. We move at your pace, and you are always in control of what we talk about and how deep we go.
INSURANCE & COST
How much do sessions cost?
A standard session (45–55 minutes) is $100 flat rate — no hidden fees, no surprise billing. This applies to individual, couples, and family sessions alike.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. BH Counseling Clinic is in-network with Municipal Health Benefit Fund (MHBF) — an insurance plan administered by the Arkansas Municipal League, covering employees of the City of Little Rock, City of North Little Rock, and other participating Arkansas municipalities and their families. If you're covered by another insurance plan, we also accept private pay, and we provide a superbill so you can file directly with your insurer for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
What is Municipal Health Benefit Fund (MHBF), and how do I know if I have it?
MHBF is a health insurance plan administered by the Arkansas Municipal League for employees of participating Arkansas municipalities. If you work for the City of Little Rock, City of North Little Rock, or another municipality in the MHBF network, you likely have access to these benefits. Call us at (501) 283-7879 and we'll help you verify your coverage before your first appointment.
What if I don't have MHBF or insurance at all?
That's completely fine. Many of my clients are self-pay at the flat $100/session rate. There are no long-term contracts and no hidden costs — you pay session by session, with full transparency from the start.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Sliding scale options are available on a limited, case-by-case basis. If cost is a barrier for you, please mention this when you reach out. I never want finances to be the reason someone doesn't get support.
WHAT TO EXPECT
What can counseling actually help with?
Therapy at BH Counseling Clinic can help you:
Build coping skills and emotional regulation techniques.
Reduce stress, anxiety, and overwhelm.
Strengthen your relationships — with a partner, family, or yourself.
Understand your thoughts, feelings, and patterns more clearly.
Feel more grounded, resilient, and like yourself again
How long does therapy take? Is there a set number of sessions?
There is no universal timeline — every person and every situation is different. Some clients see meaningful change in 8–12 sessions focused on a specific issue. Others work together over many months, particularly for deeper relational work, trauma, or significant life transitions. Progress is the measure, not the calendar, and we'll check in regularly on how things are going.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in session is protected by both legal and ethical confidentiality standards. The only exceptions are the standard legal requirements around imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or situations involving abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult — which I'll explain clearly during your first session.
Do you work with couples and families, or just individuals?
All of the above. I work with individuals, couples, families, teens (ages 7+), and young adults — and I hold a specific clinical specialization as a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT), meaning relational and systemic work is a core part of my training, not a secondary offering.
FAITH, SPECIALTIES & APPROACH
Is BH Counseling Clinic faith-based? Do I have to share your beliefs to work with you?
Faith integration at BH Counseling Clinic is always client-led. If your faith is central to your identity and your healing, it is welcome and honored in our sessions. If you prefer a secular, clinically-focused approach without religious framing, that is equally available and equally respected. You decide how much — or how little — faith is part of the conversation.
Do you work with postpartum moms or women navigating burnout?
Yes. Women's mental health — including postpartum depression and anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, life transitions, and identity — is a core focus of my practice. You can read more about my approach to postpartum mental health on our blog: What Postpartum Depression Really Looks Like in Arkansas, or learn more on our Women's Counseling page.
Do you provide supervision disclosures? Are you fully licensed?
I hold dual licensure as a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC, License A2503009) and a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT, License F2510001) in the state of Arkansas. I am currently working toward full licensure as an LPC and LMFT, with supervised clinical hours counting concurrently toward both. My supervising clinician is Wade Fuqua (Arkansas License M1508006). This is standard practice for associate-level clinicians in Arkansas and does not affect the quality or confidentiality of your care.
LOGISTICS
Do you offer telehealth, or do I have to come in person?
Both. In-person sessions are held at our West Little Rock office. Telehealth is available for clients across Central Arkansas — including Little Rock, North Little Rock, Sherwood, Maumelle, Benton, Bryant, and Conway — so you can access care from wherever you are.
What are your office hours, and do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Mondays: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Fridays: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
